SEITAN STEAKS WITH SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE

THE BEST SAUCE EVER

I absolutely love sweet and sour sauce. Let’s get started with this delicious recipe!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 seitan bistecs
  • 1 red onion
  • 3 tbsp of cane sugar (and a bit more for the onion)
  • 3 tbsp of soy sauce
  • A small piece of grated ginger
  • 1 tsp of granulated garlic
  • 1 tbsp of agave/date syrup
  • 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp of ketchup or tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp of cornstarch

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. For the sauce: mix the sugar, vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, agave, apple cider vinegar and ketchup in a saucepan. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a bit of water using a fork and reserve.
  2. Stir the sauce, add the ginger and garlic, and mix until it starts boiling – then add the bowl mix and stir until thickened, reducing the heat so it doesn’t get burned!
  3. Cook the diced onion with a bit of sugar on a saucepan on low heat, until well cooked. Then cook the seitan on both sides, and add the sauce for the last minute.
  4. Serve with a side salad and mashed sweet potatoes.
